Thyroid gland plays major role in our body. It influences the speed of all body functions, controls the heartbeat, that’s why your pulse could be too fast or too slow. The thyroid affects our body temperature, menstruation, regulates arterial pressure, etc.
Thyroid problems are common nowadays, and one of the causes is the modern lifestyle and high toxic load. Thyroid problems could be related to a deficiency of the thyroid hormones - hypothyroidism, and to the over-production of thyroid hormones - hyperthyroidism.
The main body functions regulated by the thyroid gland:
Starts the process of energy production from nutrients;
- Regulates metabolism, maintains body weight;
- Ensures the constant availability of nutrients (by regulating the rate of absorption in the intestines, the formation of glucose from glycogen, fats and proteins);
- Affects the rate of energy storage in the form of glucose and fat;
Classic symptoms of thyroid hormone deficiency are associated with the slowed down of the entire body:
- General weakness, difficult morning awakening, chronic fatigue
- Brain fog, low cognitive functions, Depression
- Edema; Constipation
- Weight gain, difficulty in losing weight.
- Pale skin color;
- Hair loss, dry skin and hair, striped or concave nails;
- Swollen large tongue with teeth marks on the edges;
- Cold rough skin, cold intolerance, cold hands and legs;
- Muscle spasms and joint pains
While the symptoms of over-production of thyroid hormones are associated with overstimulation of the body: weight loss, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, tremors, irritability, etc.
If you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, the symptoms may vary or be mixed, similar to hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Most often, to determine the condition of your thyroid gland, the doctor asks you to make lab tests. But, unfortunately, in some cases, your labs could be okay, but you could already have a problem with your thyroid.
